Indian Air Force Agniveer Vayu Vacancy Introduction

The Indian Air Force has announced the Agniveer Vayu Intake 01/2027 recruitment under the Agnipath Scheme.

This is a valuable opportunity for unmarried Indian men and women to serve in the IAF and wear the prestigious blue uniform.

The online application process will begin on 12 January 2026, giving young candidates a chance to join one of the world’s finest air forces.

Educational Qualification

Science Subjects Stream (for candidates applying under Science group):

  • Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent exam from a recognized Central, State, or UT Education Board with subjects Mathematics, Physics, and English, securing at least 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR
  • Completed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering (any of: Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Automobile, Computer Science, Instrumentation, Information Technology) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR
  • Passed a 2-year Vocational Course including non-vocational subjects Physics and Mathematics, with at least 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

Other Than Science Subjects Stream (for candidates applying under non-Science group):

  • Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent exam in any stream / subjects from a recognized Central, State, or UT Education Board, with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age → 17 years and 6 months (17.5 years)
  • Maximum Age → 21 years
  • Date of Birth Range → Candidates must be born between 01 January 2006 and 01 July 2009 (both dates inclusive)
  • Key Condition → The upper age limit (21 years) is calculated as on the date of enrolment into the Indian Air Force.

Medical & Physical Standards

Candidates must meet the following minimum physical and medical requirements during the selection process:

  • Height
    • Minimum: 152 cm for both male and female candidates
    • Relaxation:
      • Candidates from North East states & hilly areas of Uttarakhand → 147 cm
      • Candidates from Lakshadweep → 150 cm
  • Chest (for Males only)
    • Well-proportioned and well-developed chest
    • Minimum chest expansion: 5 cm (measured after full inspiration and expiration)
  • Chest (for Females only)
    • Well-proportioned chest wall
    • Minimum chest expansion: 5 cm
  • Hearing
    • Normal hearing without any aid
    • Must be able to hear a forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately
  • Visual Standards
    • Minimum distant vision: 6/12 in each eye without glasses
    • Correctable to 6/6 in each eye with glasses
    • No history of LASIK, PRK, or any other refractive surgery is allowed
  • Weight
    • Must be proportionate to height and age as per IAF medical standards

Selection Process Explained: Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The Indian Air Force Agniveer Vayu selection follows a strict, multi-stage process that evaluates knowledge, fitness, adaptability, and medical fitness.

Phase – I: Online Computer-Based Test (CBT)

This is a screening test conducted online in bilingual format (English & Hindi), except for the English section.

Exam Pattern & Duration:

  • Science Subjects Stream → 60 minutes Subjects: English, Physics, Mathematics (CBSE 10+2 level)
  • Non-Science Subjects Stream → 45 minutes Subjects: English + Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA)
  • Both Streams Combined → 85 minutes Subjects: English, Physics, Mathematics + RAGA

Marking Scheme:

  • +1 mark for each correct answer
  • -0.25 marks for each wrong answer
  • No marks for unanswered questions
Phase – II: Physical Fitness Test (PFT) + Adaptability Test

Candidates who meet the Phase-I cut-off marks are shortlisted for Phase-II at the allotted Airmen Selection Centre.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT):

  • Running:
    • Male → 1.6 km in maximum 7 minutes
    • Female → 1.6 km in maximum 8 minutes
  • Additional Exercises (Male):
    • 10 Push-ups in 1 minute
    • 10 Sit-ups in 1 minute
    • 20 Squats in 1 minute (With short breaks between exercises)
  • Additional Exercises (Female):
    • 10 Sit-ups in 1 minute 30 seconds
    • 15 Squats in 1 minute

Adaptability Test-II: A psychological / situational test to check suitability for IAF lifestyle, teamwork, stress handling, and military environment.

Phase – III: Medical Examination

Candidates who qualify Phase-II undergo a detailed medical check-up by IAF medical teams at designated centres.
